Vickie Michelle Moriarity, 58

Vickie Michelle Moriarity, 58, of Mt. Sterling, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, at her home, after a brief battle with ovarian cancer.
Born in Seattle, Wash., she was the daughter of the late Douglas Marshall Hicks and Susan Rowena Pownceby Hicks. She was a National Board Certified English Language Arts teacher at Williamstown Independent School District. She loved playing her saxophone, singing at church, journaling, and reading books, but her true passion was teaching. She was an exceptionally gifted teacher who taught in Arizona, Nebraska, Virginia, and finally, Kentucky, first at Bath County Middle School for 17 years and then one year at Williamstown Independent Middle School. She loved her students, expected the best from them, never gave up on them, and consistently advocated for them.
Survivors include a brother, Brett Matthew Hicks of Seattle, Wash.; niece, Megan Hicks of Bremerton, Wash.; stepmother, Jules Harris-Downing of Phoenix, Ariz.; stepsister, Nichole (Nathan) Moseley of Owasso, Okla.; her work families at Williamstown Independent Middle School and Bath County Middle School; and her church family at Bethesda Church.
Celebration of life will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, at Bethesda Church, 3339 Winchester Road, Mt. Sterling.
