Allya Matthews Jones, 98, of Mt. Sterling, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024, at Windsor Care Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 9, 1926, in Bath County, she was the daughter of the late Daugherty Matthews and Julia Mae Brown Matthews. She retired after 44 years of dedicated service from Jockey International and was a former door greeter for 18 years at Walmart. She was of the Christian faith and will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.
Survivors include a son, Larry W. Jones (Sandy) of Winchester; daughter, Patricia Jones Sorrell of Mt. Sterling; five grandchildren, Elgena Jones, Elisha Jones, Chuck Sorrell (Tracy), Crystal Amburgey (Byron) and Stephanie Wengert (Brandon); three great-grandchildren, Lacey Sorrell, Kaitlyn Sorrell, and Beth Poer; and other extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Jones; a son, Billy Bruce Jones; brother, John Alexander Matthews; and five sisters, Glenna McQuithy, Elizabeth Thomas, Dorothy Curry Thomas, Katherine Call and Wilma Newton.
Service was conducted Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Camargo Church of God with Aaron Conn officiating. Burial was in Longview Cemetery in Bethel.
Pallbearers were Byron Amburgey, Joe Harris, Chuck Sorrell and Brandon Wengert.
