Jackie Donald McVey, 84

November 18, 2024

Jackie Donald McVey, 84, affectionately known as “Jack,” died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024, at his home in Sharpsburg.
Born Dec. 18, 1939, in Bath County, he was the son of the late Richard Conway McVey and Laura Triplett McVey. He lived a fulfilling life deeply rooted in his passions, career and family.  A lifelong farmer, he dedicated his time to nurturing the land he loved.  He was known not only for his hard work and commitment to agriculture but also for his warmth and kindness to those around him.  He proudly served in the United States Army, embodying a spirit of duty and honor that he carried throughout his life.  His military service was a source of pride for he and his family.  He enjoyed a variety of pastimes that enriched his life.  He was a man of faith, being a member of the Old Springfield Church for many years.  He had a deep love for coon hunting, found joy in mowing his yard, and took great satisfaction in tending to his garden.  His enthusiasm for UK basketball was well known among friends and family, and he could often be found watching westerns, relishing the timeless stories they told.  Most importantly, he valued the company of his family and friends, cherishing every moment spent with them.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Shirley Prater McVey, who stood by his side throughout their years together; and three sons, Ernie Jones (Stephanie), Ronnie McVey (Sherry) and Doug McVey, all of Mt. Sterling.  He will be lovingly remembered by his two brothers, William “Duck” McVey of Sharpsburg and Elgin McVey (Carrie) of Mt. Sterling; a sister, Diana McVey Woosley (Larry) of Mt. Sterling; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother-in- law, Lee Corey.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Hatton; brothers, Harold Conway McVey and Wayne Thomas McVey; and a sister, Deborah Alice McVey Corey.
Though he has left this earthly realm, his spirit and memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
