Mary Gaitskill Brown, 76

Mary Gaitskill Brown, 76, of Berea, died Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.
Born Wednesday, May 12, 1948, in Pocatello, Idaho, she was the daughter of the late David Robinson and Frances Jones Gaitskill. She was a 1966 graduate of Mt. Sterling High School and went on to earn degrees at Morehead State University, BME, Michigan State University, ME and additional graduate study work at West Virginia University. She had a special calling to teach, as evident in her teaching in elementary schools and universities for 40 years. After her retirement from the classroom, she enjoyed a partial retirement as a puppeteer with her husband. His hobbies included puppets, utilizing her talent of sewing, genealogy, music, birdwatching and volunteer work.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Richard Brown; sons, Christopher Andrew Brown (Karen Hogle Brown) and James Robinson Brown; grandsons, Landon Hosier and Aedan Hogle Brown; sisters, Rebecca Brothers (Gary) and Jeannette Gaitskill Moore (Tony); sister-in-law, Pam Gaitskill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, John Gaitskill; and sister, Sara Booth.
Celebration of life will be conducted at 4 p.m., Saturday, June 14, at the Combs, Parsons and Collins Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., Richmond, Ky. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m.
