Doris Ailene Gibson, 79

Doris Ailene Gibson, 79, a devoted follower of Christ, was called home on Friday, March 7, 2025.
She was born Aug. 3,1945, in Wales, Ky. She graduated from Virgie High School, attended Pikeville College, and went on to graduate from Morehead State University with a bachelor’s and master’s in education. She married the love of her life, Rodney Gibson, in 1964. She taught middle school in Montgomery County for 30 years, at Miller Middle and McNabb middle schools. She was passionate about teaching and adored her students. She embodied selflessness and generosity, caring and kindness. She never met a stranger, and could make anyone feel loved and like she had known them forever. She lived her life full of faith, and knew where her eternal home would be. She loved serving in the church nursery in years past. She enjoyed worshiping at Living Water Church. She daily served her family wholeheartedly, and faithfully cared for her husband. She was a devoted wife, mother, and Mimi. She had the gift of hospitality and everyone was welcome in her home. She enjoyed nature, her cats, reading a wide variety of book genres, reading her Bible, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. She loved the beach and ocean, as well as the hills of Pike County.
Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, Rodney Gibson; daughter, Kristi Gibson Spoonamore (Chris); granddaughter, Sophie Grace Spoonamore; sister, Lois Christene Damron; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Sadie Tackett; son, Chadwick Dale Gibson; and three siblings, Joyce Tackett, Claudius Tackett and Bob Tackett.
Service was conducted Tuesday, March 11, at Machpelah Cemetery chapel.
Pallbearers were Tim Damron, Kimball Damron, Claude Tackett, Ben Tackett, Joseph Tackett, Alec Tackett, Shane Compton and Chris Spoonamore.
Honorary pallbearers were the retired teachers of Montgomery County.
