March 07, 2025

Kathleen Ruth Shearer, 76, beloved grandmother, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully, Monday, March 3, at home, surrounded by her children, best friend of 30 years, and close friends.
Born July 31, 1948,  in Winchester, she was the daughter of the late Reverend Deane and Helen Satterwhite.  She carried a love of knowledge and nature throughout her life. She earned her degree in library science from Eastern Kentucky University, and spent many years as a dedicated librarian, and bookmobile driver, surrounded by the books that she cherished.  An avid reader and collector, she found joy in the written word and sharing her passion with others.  When she wasn’t lost in the pages of a book, she found solace in bird watching, especially hummingbirds.  She also deeply valued her faith, and cherished the time she spent sitting with close friends discussing the Bible and sharing its wisdom.  She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved her.
She leaves behind a family who adored her including a brother, Jim (Ann) Satterwhite; her lifelong best friend, Debbie Kiser; loving children, Jennifer Shearer, James (Jennie) Shearer and Jaxxon Shearer; four grandchildren, Josh Lucas, Alex Shearer, Zach Shearer and Xailee Shearer; nephews, Simon (Rachel) Satterwhite and Jimmy (Beth) Satterwhite; niece, Crystal (Matt) Hurley; many great-nieces and nephews; and neighbors, Karen Layne, Josh Campbell and Billie Ferguson, who helped care for her during her illness.
Cremation ceremony will be held at Grassy Lick Methodist Church, on a date and time later to be determined.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Satterwhite, Jaxxon Shearer, Jimmy Shearer, Josh Lucas, Josh Campbell and Bill Layne.
