Jackie Evans, left, and Brenda Ralls placed a sign at “The Courting Tree” outside DuBois Community Center Saturday. Now a stump, it was the site where many DuBois High School students once congregated, some of whom began “courting” each other. The sign read, “I survived,” in reference to a fire that destroyed much of the DuBois High School in 1964. The center hosted an “Out of the Ashes” event Saturday to remember the 60th anniversary of the fire. Photo by Tom Marshall.
