There’s no question that Mt. Sterling is a running community.

The fall running season will begin here Aug. 14 when the Small Town America Festival will roll again, after many events were cancelled last year due to the pandemic.

The 5K event that day will be held in a new location as runners get to test their running skills, or just get out for an enjoyable run or walk that morning on the streets of the downtown area.

Registration will be held that morning beginning at 7 a.m. at The Dog Park and the race itself will get under way at 8 a.m.

Parking will be available at the First Christian Church parking lot.

The event is sponsored through the Mt. Sterling/Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Dept. and you can also register ahead of the event by going to msmcparks.com.

More information is also available by calling 498-8728.

The race will take runners from the starting point on the Adena Trail south of the United States Post Office to where the Adena Trial ends on South Queen Street, then north on Queen Street to Main.

The route then goes east on Main Street to a point that will be marked near the junction of East Main and East High. Runners will then reverse their course and travel west on Main Street to Richmond Avenue, south on Richmond Avenue, then west on Locust Street to Sycamore and south on Sycamore back to the starting point.

Participants will go around this route twice to complete the 5K distance.
