Veterans Day ceremonies begin this week

In honor of Veterans Day, several local ceremonies will be hosted beginning this week.

Camargo Elementary and Montgomery County High School will host Veterans Day ceremonies Friday, Nov. 8.

Camargo will host its ceremony at 1:45 p.m. in the gym while MCHS will host its ceremony at 2:30 p.m. in the Barn.
There will also be a ceremony at the First Church of God at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 8.

A free concert to honor veterans will be hosted at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Lewis Apperson White Performance Hall of the Gateway Regional Arts Center.

The 100th Army Band of Fort Knox will be performing and donations will be accepted for the Veterans Pavilion at Botts Park. The event is sponsored by Semper Tek.

On Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11, the American Legion Post 22 will host its annual ceremony in front of the courthouse at 11 a.m. A member of the legion will speak during the event. A 21-gun salute will also be part of the ceremony.

Legion members will also serve as speakers at several other local ceremonies, Legion Commander Russell Sherlin said.

Other local school ceremonies that day include:
Northview Elementary School, 8:30 a.m., gym
Mapleton Elementary, 9 a.m., gym
McNabb Middle School, 9:30 a.m., gym
Mt. Sterling Elementary, 1:15 p.m., gym.
