Advocate staff report

A man sought by the Mt. Sterling Police Dept. in reference to an investigation where a warrant for attempted murder was issued turned himself in Tuesday.

James L. Jones, 38, of Sharpsburg, turned himself in in Morehead around 3 p.m. July 16, MSPD Det. Chris Haddix said. He is lodged in the Montgomery County Regional Jail and is charged with attempted murder.

The dept. responded to a reported shooting incident in front of People’s Choice on East Locust Street around 2 a.m. July 14.

Robert Blake Thompson, 23, of Mt. Sterling, was reportedly shot in the arm, Haddix said. He added Jones and Thompson reportedly had an ongoing dispute, Haddix added.

Thompson later went to the University of Kentucky hospital by ambulance to have the bullet removed from his arm, Haddix said. He added he has been released and is expected to make a full recovery.
