The winning streak reached nine this past weekend for the Montgomery County Indians this past weekend when they ran the table in the Tribe Shootout at Madison Central High School.

“Just a combination of these guys working hard and really having a strong will to win,” Pannell said. “You’re not always going to play your best and a winning streak like this happens when you have the ability to rise to the occasion in those games when you’re struggling a little bit but as a team you simply won’t let losing come into the picture.”

The Indians wrapped up the tournament at Madison Central when they defeated the host school 3-2 in a shootout that went to penalty kicks.
Montgomery County got on the scoreboard when sophomore defender Austin Stigall delivered a pass to junior forward Mason Anderson for a goal and senior midfielder Daniel Shelton delivered the second goal on a free kick. Then the Indians out-pointed Madison Central on penalty kicks with senior goalkeeper Danny Hernandez playing a key role.

Both Montgomery County and Madison Central defeated both Louisville Central and South Laurel in previous matches in the tournament to reach the final game of the tournament unbeaten.

Although Madison Central has only a 4-8 record this season they’ve played a challenging schedule and have been really solid on defense.
“Facing them at their place in the final game of the tournament when they’ve got a chance to make a really positive statement was a challenge for us,” Pannell said “We had to work hard for the win even if their record isn’t that impressive.”

Montgomery County opened the tournament with an 8-1 win over Louisville Central last Thursday night at Richmond.

The Indians scored early and often with Pruitt Lansdale giving a pass to Mason Anderson for the first goal of the match and then Lansdale scored an unassisted goal to make it 2-0.

Lansdale scored on an assist from Trey Carroll and then Lansdale got an assist when Daniel Shelton scored to make it 4-0.

Austin Stigall got the fifth goal when he took a pass from Noah Lane on a corner kick to make it 5-1 at the half.

Anderson scored on an assist from sophomore Mason Hammonds to begin the second half scoring and then sophomore John Stewart got a goal on a pass from another sophomore, Chris Destassis before Lansdale completed the scoring on a free kick.

“We struggled scoring a little bit early in the season but we’ve really improved offensively and I think the guys are feeling really confident right now about our ability to score goals,” Pannell noted.

The Indians played on Saturday morning and rolled to a 7-0 victory over South Laurel, a 13th Region squad with a 9-6 record.

Mason Anderson scored a hat trick and sophomore Pruitt Lansdale, who had a trifecta recently in a win over Clark County, enjoyed big offensive games as the Indians defeated the Cardinals.

Lansdale took a pass from sophomore midfielder Colton Covix and scored to put the Indians on the scoreboard and then delivered a pass to Daniel Shelton for the second goal.

Anderson and Lansdale teamed up on goal number three with Lansdale getting his second score and then Ean King got a goal on a pass from freshman Noah Lane.

Austin Stigall set Anderson up for the fifth goal and then Anderson scored an unassisted goal before taking a pass from Lansdale for the final goal of the game.

Anderson finished with three goals and an assist and Lansdale had two goals and two assists to lead the Tribe offense.
Danny Hernandez was in goal for his third shutout of the season and the Indians have now given up an average of just over 1.5 goals per match and in the last eight games the opponents have managed a total of eight goals.
