Church damaged by vehicle in Jeffersonville

4/20/2018

By Tom Marshall
Senior Advocate writer

A Jeffersonville church suffered considerable damage Tuesday morning when it was struck by a vehicle, according to authorities.

The incident occurred about 9:15 a.m. when the driver of a Chevrolet single-cab pickup headed south on Hwy. 213 reportedly lost control, struck a sign and then the front section of Spruce Valley First Church of God, Montgomery County Sheriff Fred Shortridge said.

The driver, Shawn Caudill, 29, of Stanton, reportedly told investigators that the accident occurred when he swerved to miss a rock, Shortridge said.

Responding deputies checked the area, but saw no signs of a roadway obstruction, he said.

Witnesses claim they saw a female passenger get in another vehicle at the scene and flee the area, Shortridge said. Authorities have been unable to locate her.

Caudill reportedly claimed the woman was a friend and he didn’t know her name, the sheriff said.

A syringe was reportedly found on the ground near the pickup, Shortridge said.

Caudill was transported to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center for treatment of facial and possible internal injuries.

Shortridge said the sheriff’s office was working with UK security Tuesday afternoon in an effort to obtain a subpoena to draw blood from the driver. Charges could be filed depending on test results, the sheriff added.
The accident remains under investigation by Deputy Duane Kidd.
