A mother has pleaded guilty to burning or allowing someone to burn her then 2-year-old child with a cigarette in 2016.

Kirsten Lindsay Haddix, 27, of Mt. Sterling, pleaded guilty March 6 in Montgomery County Circuit Court to a charge of first-degree criminal abuse.

The crime carries a sentence of five to 10 years imprisonment.
Judge William “Bill” Lane ordered a presentence investigative report to be completed prior to sentencing May 25.

Haddix was released from the Montgomery County Regional Jail on a MCR bond with an order to maintain contact with Child Protective Services. The bond stipulates that she have no contact with the victim while unsupervised or alone.

Haddix was arrested by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in March 2016. That was after they learned that the Dept. for Social Services was reportedly investigating a complaint involving the child and a doctor confirmed the injuries.

The doctor reported that the child had burns to a hand and arm, according to the sheriff’s office. A sheriff’s detective told the Advocate then that the child would likely have scarring.

Investigators took statements from several individuals, including Haddix’s two other children. They were removed from the home and placed with family members.
